Résumé

The local concept of sambahayan will be examined and developed for its “appropriateness” to convey the Christian ecclesia as sambahayan ng Diyos (family household of God). This locally- generated understanding will also serve as a model for explaining the nature of the Christian ecclesia itself. Thus, this adoption of the local category of sambahayan serves to encapsulate and contextualize the Catholic Church's four creedal attributes of unity, holiness, catholicity, and apostolicity. Without this move of contextualization- appropriation, the creedal attributes lack moorings and relevance in Filipino culture and society.

Levy Lara Lanaria, University of San Carlos

Levy Lara Lanaria is married with three children. He is a learning facilitator in the Office of Education and Mission, University of San Carlos, Cebu City, and teaches part-time at the San Carlos Major Seminary of the Archdiocese of Cebu. He is the incumbent president of Damdaming Katoliko sa Teolohiya (Catholic Theological Society of the Philippines) and a co-convenor of the Cebu Theological Forum.
